Barbara Jean’s is a family run, multi-unit restaurant operation that began in 1998 on St. Simons Island, Georgia, about fifty miles north of Jacksonville, Florida and 60 miles south of Savannah. We specialize in both seafood and made-from-scratch, home-style cooking. As the Savannah Morning News said in July 2006, “It’s rare that a restaurant can pull off doing both seafood and home-style cooking and do both very well, but Barbara Jean’s does just that.” We take great pride in what we do and know that the most important visit we get from you, our customers, is the next one, and we have to earn that today!

The heart of Barbara Jean’s is the very real Barbara Jean Barta. She is the creative force behind the recipes we serve and works every day in one restaurant or another. Other family members are every bit as active.

There is little doubt that we are best known for our Crab Cakes, but our She Crab Soup, slightly mysterious “Chocolate Stuff” dessert and homemade breads have an aggressive following as well. This site can give you as detailed an insight into what we do as you could hope for, as well as restaurant locations and contact information, write-ups and reviews, and on-line product offerings. We even give you a way to contact us, and it will be one of the family that gets back to you.

We bake three kinds of fresh bread every day, all day--pumpkin bread, homemade wheat rolls, and sweet jalapeno corn bread!

Kailua Chicken Salad • White meat chicken chunks, Mandarin oranges, pineapple chunks, pecans and island mayonnaise

BJ's "Blue" Salad • blue cheese, romaine and iceberg lettuce, mandarin oranges, pecans, red bell peppers, honey-basil vinaigrette, and topped with grilled chicken and crumbled bacon

House Salad • a variety of lettuce and garden veggies, tomato, croutons and your choice of dressing

Caesar Salad • Romaine lettuce, tangy Caesar dressing, garlic croutons and parmesan cheese

Salado • Salad Mixed salad greens with tortilla strips, tossed in a basil vinaigrette dressing

Dressing: Ranch, Italian, bleu cheese, oil and vinegar, honey mustard, low fat raspberry vinaigrette, and fat free ranch

”Eastern Shore” style. All lump backfin crab meat, no fillers! We offer crab cakes so many different ways.
Order: One 7 oz, Two 7 oz, One 5 oz, Two 5 oz, Jumbo 7 oz Sandwich or Regular 5 oz Sandwich.

Coastal Platter •
Crab Cake, coconut or buttermilk
battered fried shrimp, and

Tuna Steaks •
marinated Yellowfin Tuna that is either char grilled or blackened

Tony's Plate • (he runs the kitchen!) a half pound New York strip steak and either a 7oz jumbo crab cake, grilled salmon fillet, catfish fillets, grilled tuna steaks, eight shrimp or fried fish

1/2 & 1/2 Platter • Crab Cake or six shrimp, plus either tuna, salmon, fried fish fillet or catfish

better than Mom’s or Grandma’s, with tomato sauce or brown gravy

Pot Roast •

Chicken Fried Steak • hand battered and smothered in cream or brown gravy.

Chicken Fried Chicken • maybe better than chicken fried steak, comes with cream gravy

Chicken Finger Plate • a hand full of fingers and a choice of honey mustard sauce or cream gravy

Pork Chops • 2 grilled marinated boneless center cut chops

Boneless Chicken Breast • marinated and charbroiled, or blackened.

T-bone Steak • grilled 16oz with baked potato and your choice of small salad or two veggies
